I recently had the lovely fortune of attending Authors in the Dungeon. This was an awesome event put out locally and was held in the Provo Towne Center Mall.
I got to attend and meet in person authors I had only met through Zoom.
First off, I got to see Candace J. Thomas, who I talked to about her Vivatera series and book a few weeks ago. I got to talk to her more about her podcast and her unique press that she owns where she distributes all her books that she’s written, Shadesilk Press. Eagle-eyed readers know that Shadesilk is a unique magical name for something in Candace’s Vivatera series.
I also got to meet up with Aaron N. Hall, author of the Hammerfist novels as well as the collections I’m Sorry, Here’s a Plasma Rifle and Love Letters to A House on Fire. We talked about writing, the event itself and even some of his upcoming projects that he has in the pipeline. One that I am particularly looking forward to Legend of Uh, his fantasy comedy novel. He said he is hoping to get that done sometime next year and is eager to share it with his readers. It was really good to see Aaron in person.
Another author I got to meet and connect with was Jeff Wheeler. I recently got exposed to Jeff Wheeler’s fantasy works through other authors and their work. I recently read his Muirwood series, although I am not quite finished there. But it was a joy and a treat to meet him in person. In the coming weeks, you will see an interview with Jeff in space. So, look forward to that soon.
Now, I have talked about The Cartographer’s War series quite a bit in this space. I read it at the end of the year last year and I enjoyed it a lot. It was because of this event that I was introduced to that series and Author Allison Anderson’s work. She and her husband were the organizers of this event. I was in line to get an autograph from her and she not looking up at me asked who it was for. Then, she looked up at me and immediately recognized me from our interactions on social media. She shouted with recognition, “Oh! Tim! I know you! I am so glad you came!”
I was happy to get her book, The Spring Maiden, autographed along with some additional swag from the book to go along with it.
It wouldn’t be a fantasy event if I didn’t stop by the booth put out by Dragonsteel Books, which is the company owned by Brandon Sanderson. I got some Cosmere pins for my brother as well as a Stormlight Archive T-shirt.
I also waited in line for what felt like forever to meet Christopher Paolini, who wrote the Eragon fantasy novels. I’ve read his novels for a while and I would be lying if I said he wasn’t a huge inspiration on my own writing. For those unfamiliar, he published Eragon at the ripe young age of 15. It’s got some debut author problems. But it is not bad at all. It holds up very nicely and I am glad I got to meet him.
All in all, it was a fun event. I am glad I went and interacted with so many. I hope it happens again and I am looking forward to the big writers conference in Provo, LTUE (Life, The Universe and Everything) in about a month.
Some updates other than that are I am interviewing Author Sabine Berlin, who has written a sci-fi YA novel, The Sky Full of Stars, as well as the K-drama novella Oh My Oppa!
EXCELSIOR!!
